7 Questions with Twitch Streamer, @atmospheriaaa
Q1: Tell me about yourself.
Hi! I’m Atmospheria. Atmos or Ellie works as well! A little bit about me, I enjoy singing, crocheting, watching anime, reading Webtoons, and playing a variety of games. I’m currently working in the medical field and working towards getting my prerequisites done to apply for Physicians Assistant school. I live in the PNW and because it’s so beautiful here I love to occasionally go on hikes with my boyfriend and our dog Olive.
Q2: What got you into streaming?
I’m originally from California so when we moved to the PNW, I didn’t have anyone I knew or friends I could hang out with. I was already thinking about streaming 2 years before starting in 2024 but moving and my friend who also streams encouraged me to just start. I’m really social and having no one to hang out with motivated me even more. I wanted to have nonsensical talks with people while I play my silly games! 100% don’t regret it at all and I even made a friend who’s in my area that streams as well! If you’re thinking of streaming, I recommend just going for it! It’s never too late to start!
Q3: Tell me about your Twitch community.
I honestly don’t know what I would do without them. They are so lovely, caring, and supportive of my endeavors. If you ever hop in to chat, there’s always someone who will say hi to you! My community aligns with my values and I believe no one should be allowed to feel lonely or ignored. We have people from all cultures from all around the world who come in and broaden my understanding of their cultures and it’s just a grand ol’ time. If I’m struggling or if anyone is struggling, my community is always there to lend a hand! We are here to accept what you are and if you lurk, talk, play, or whatever it may be; you are always accepted in the Milky Way!
Q4: Why is self-care so important to you personally?
Coming from an Asian household, you were always expected to think about how others might feel if you expressed you weren’t feeling the greatest. “You don’t want to burden people with your emotions” I would always think to myself because that’s what I was taught. I think it’s important to normalize having bad days and talk about what you do to take care of yourself because it’s unhealthy to hold it in and bottle it up. My hopes is that through showing my self-care tips and actively talking about it, I am able to show people that it’s ok to talk about self-care and speak on the fact that we can make it through our bad days.
Q5: What do you do during streams to take care of yourself?
During streams, I make sure I take frequent breaks. I think many of us get caught up in the fun and forget to take care of ourselves and I’m guilty of it. I look at the time and try to take a break every hour or so. I have hydration and breathing/break redeems so my community can help me if I maybe haven’t taken a break in a bit or if I haven’t drank water in a while. I also try to be honest with my community if on that day I’m not feeling the greatest or if I have low spoons to make sure people are aware of my current well-being.
Q6: Do you do any community self-care?
Yes! I have community hydration and break redeems. I include timers that go off about every 30 min to remind people to stretch, have a snack, drink some water, and take care of themselves however they need to. I also have a command for when I go on break so people can take that time to do the above as well.
Q7: What advice would you like to give Twitch streamers experiencing digital burnout?
Be OK with taking breaks. I can’t emphasize enough how important breaks are during the stream or just taking time off streaming. Give yourself time to recover, allow time to be with loved ones, disconnect from the internet for as long as your heart tells you, and take care of your mental and physical health.
I also recommend trying different games out that get your blood pumping, trying new things on stream like co-working, or showcasing your hobbies. Doing the same things on stream can be quite tiring! Also make sure to remember that it’s ok to have burnout, you aren’t alone in this! Take everything a step at a time and don’t get lost in the enormous picture.
